Chinese Dating/Socializing App

Solution

I created a match-making app where Chinese families can connect with other families in their community for the purpose of networking and matching-making for their children.

Problem

The dating scene in the Chinese community often happens between families. With each passing year, Chinese parents become worried that their single children have trouble finding a spouse. They are looking to network with other Chinese families across the country to help find a suitable partner for their child.

Project Overview

  • Why Did I Choose This Subject?

The difference in opinion on love & marriage between First-Gen Chinese & Second-Gen Chinese always interested me. I came from an immigrant family and grew up in the States. Compared to the older generations, I have a different view on love & marriage. Since there’s a culture gap between the two generations, I’d like to explore opportunities to bridge the divide.

  • What is This Project About?

Since Chinese parents likes to be involved in their children’s marital decisions, I’d like to examine their attitude and wishes when it comes to helping their kids pick future spouses.

  • Product Goals

Successfully create a match-making app where Chinese families can connect with other families in their community for the purpose of networking and matching-making for their children.

Target Users: Chinese parents in their 40s-60s

Basic Functions: Chat rooms based on common interests, family values, hobbies & locations.

Problem Statement

“How might we ease the concerns of Chinese parents so that they can better support their children in finding a potential spouse?”

Interviews

Intro Questions (4-5): age, job, location, hobbies, upbringing

Motivations (4-5): Feelings and attitudes towards their children’s marital status

Methods (4-5): What apps do they use to connect with others? Do they go to events?

Search Criteria (4-5): What are they looking for in a potential son-in-law or daughter-in-law?

Key Findings: Parents are looking for candidates with similar background as their children. They also value job security and occupation of the candidate. They find their own children is too introverted or unmotivated to find a spouse.
